As some of you may know I'm cycling across Canada this summer with my friends. We're a group of five guys cycling across Canada this summer in support of Ratanak International. Ratanak is a non-profit organization that works in Cambodia to help rebuild their economic, social and spirtual landscapes. Over recent years they have focused mainly on helping young children and women who are exploited in the sex trade. Our team, EPIC riders, believes in helping these exploited people. We are raising money in support of Ratanak and are dedicating our summers to riding across Canada to spread awareness about this issue. I will include links on this blog to donate towards Ratanak or simply read more about what they do and what we are doing.
I'd like to give you all a run down of how our trip is working and some frequently asked questions. There's five guys going on the trip. Ben, is our team manager, driver and has been responsible for most of the planning. Thanks Ben! Luke, Evan, Tyler and I are the riders. We're raising money and awareness for Ratanak International as I described in the above paragraph. All individual money donations and money from fundraising events will go directly to supporting Ratanak. We are also getting business partnerships and sponsorships to help us with the trip costs. They get advertising on pieces of our equipment and even greater they are allowing us to do the trip to raise money for Ratanak! We have a couple fundraising events coming up, which I hope people will attend:
- Silent auction and cake auction at Forward Church in Cambridge on May 25th! bring money
- Booster night at Boston Pizza north Cambridge on Thursday June 13th! only $20 entry..
- Send off event June 23rd in Cambridge, the day we set out on our drive to Vancouver, BC.
So far we have most of our business sponsorships already in place. We still need four more sponsors, two for the sides of the van, one for our jerseys and one for the bottom part of the van. And already $2310 raised for Ratanak, thank you!
Now I want to update you about my life and all the new progress with EPIC riders. First of all, our trip starts in only 44 more days! Since May has started, I've moved back to Cambridge to be with my family and to help with planning and training for the trip. Ben (Looby) and I were busy yesterday getting all of the route details figured out. We've put together a solid two month schedule of riding and all of the places we will stop overnight. For me, as ride team leader, I'm going to be putting together a training schedule to help us get ready for the ride. We've been doing some training, but some of us are busy with school and work as well, its an extra effort to go out and do riding training on top of it. Look for more updates in the next few months on our wesite epicriders.org and our facebook page.
Thanks for supporting us,
